General Motors signed an industry-academic memorandum of understanding with the State University of New York Korea (SUNY Korea), setting the stage to nurture talent within the community and drive forward the rapidly evolving automotive industry.

The MOU signing ceremony held yesterday at SUNY Korea in Songdo, Incheon, was attended by Hector Villarreal, president and CEO of GM’s Korean Operations; Brian McMurray, president of GM’s Korean Engineering Center; Myongok Yoon, Chief Marketing Officer and Managing Director of Communications and Arthur H. Lee, SUNY Korea President.

GM and SUNY Korea plan to roll out a range of educational support activities for local students, encompassing offering STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education programs, hosting breakthrough mobility technology seminars, developing mentoring sessions, and engaging in other educational programs for tomorrow’s industry professionals.

“GM is committed to nurturing global talent as a cornerstone value, establishing a pathway for leadership in the future mobility industry through STEM programs for students in our community,” said Hector Villarreal. “Through our partnership with SUNY Korea, we look forward to unlocking the full potential of youth and fostering their creativity, thereby shaping them into talent who will steer an even safer and brighter future.”

“As a leader in the development of future mobility, GM is committed to fostering “diverse global talent” ready to help GM embark on a future driven by ever advancing technology. Our STEM focus, values and training is tailored for students in our community.” said Brian McMurray. “We will seek to develop highly innovative and creative educational programs, thereby supporting local talent who will drive the rapidly changing industry.”

Arthur H. Lee said, “Today marks a step toward a promising partnership aimed at fostering industry- academic cooperation, collaboration and mutual growth. This is very meaningful, as these areas encompass a wide range of initiatives that will not only enhance the academic experience for SUNY Korea students and faculty, and employees at GM, but also contribute to the local community and foster mutual growth and development.”

GM has demonstrated its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as innovation, through a wide range of social giving activities, including STEM programs for youth, education for individuals with transportation handicaps, and self-reliance support for those who are disadvantaged.

This aligns with GM's focus on achieving its triple-zero vision of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion. Moving forward, GM remains committed to expanding its social impact through various initiatives that will empower underprivileged communities.
